Branding a new resort lifestyle in once-passe downtown Palma, Swede-born Mats Wahlstram creates a 26-room hotel mixing Schrager-ambiance with the Ibiza party scene. The hotel features a vibrant mix of Asian-design with sleek-architecture reminiscent of new Miami. The hotel is located in the heart of Palma's charming Old Town, built within the Roman city 300-plus years ago with stones from local quarries. But the oldness seems to all-but-vanish upon entering the sleek-white lobby area with quaffed staff and jet set clientele. Gourmet-lovers discover Asian influenced cuisine at the Opio Restaurant as well as it's adjacent champagne bar that inevitably lead to long nights on the rooftop terrace with views of the village. In 2006, the hotel opened Puro Beach, an instant hotspot, offering mornings of yoga and evenings of champagne-induced dancing around a lounger-lined pool deck with DJ-beats located directly above the beach.
The Room
Madrid-based architect Alvaro Planchuelo creates a sparkling historic-hotel an intoxicating design mix of modern Marrakech meets Miami meets Southeast Asia. Guest rooms aim to satiate the senses with bright colors and textures. Exotic accents like colored-silk pillows, silver engraved candlesticks and antique mirrors sparkle above sleek-wood floors and imported rugs. Hand carved doors from Burma, goose feather lampshades from Guinea and richly colored cushions from Rajasthan offer a Moorish theme to the largely modern guest spaces. Bathrooms offer a generously sized plunge tub dripped in dark marble with gilded full-length mirror and billowing white-linen curtains. All rooms are equipped with elaborately carved teak accents and parrot-feathered tribal hats and Bose Wave sound systems with the latest house CD on repeat.
